Sunlit Haven
The Creative Vision
When Design & Elevate joined the project, the owners had already engaged contractors and applied for a permit. Their goal was to expand the living space, as they often hosted large gatherings. They envisioned a bright and inviting sunroom that could be enjoyed year-round, especially during the short Seattle summers. This space was meant to serve as an extension of their kitchen, offering additional storage and a seamless connection to their outdoor garden.

Designing a Radiant Sunroom
Objectives:
Bright, Airy Atmosphere: Maximize views of the garden.
Skylight Optimization: Enhance natural light with decorative lighting.
Reading Nook Creation: Design a space to display their extensive book collection.
Fluid Space Design: Ensure free flow of space between the family room, kitchen, and new entertainment hub.
Challenges:
Multipurpose Floor Plan: Integrate a reading nook, wet bar, buffet counter, and casual dining seating into an open layout.
Kitchen Extension: Make the sunroom a functional extension of the main kitchen.
Structural Constraints: Work within existing sheer walls while maximizing storage and functionality.
Ample Wet Bar Storage: Design a spacious wet bar for their extensive bottle and barware collection.
Fireplace Integration: Incorporate a fireplace for added heat during the long winter months.

Solutions:
Defined Zones: Create two areas – a reading nook and wet bar – defined by decorative chandeliers while maintaining an open floor plan.
Cutout Window: Install a cutout window for easy access between the main kitchen and wet bar, aligning with structural constraints.
Enhanced Storage: Incorporate pull-out drawers along the window wall and add upper glass cabinets for increased storage.
Cozy Window Seat: Design a window seat between two bookshelves to create the ideal reading nook, with drawers for additional storage beneath.
Three-Sided Fireplace: Install a three-sided fireplace as a focal point, fulfilling the client's request for warmth and ambiance.

Special features:
Expansive Skylights: Large 3’x9’ skylights enhance the indoor-outdoor experience.
Custom Cabinets: Flank the windows to maximize storage and elevate the design aesthetic.
Motorized Roller Shades: With a neutral pattern add texture and maintain a connection to the backyard, while being hidden away in the daytime.
Recessed Cabinet Lighting: Spotlight décor items, showcasing books on one side and glassware on the other.
Layered Lighting: Complement the overall design with two decorative chandeliers.
Butcher Block Countertop: Contrast soft white cabinets with black and gold cabinet pulls.
Antique Mirrored Backsplash: Introduce glamour to the neutral natural palette.
Hidden Electrical Outlets: Maintain a clean look by concealing outlets beneath upper cabinets.
Durable Sink: A black Neoroc undermount sink, contrasts the gold faucet, and provides practical durability.
Built-In Soap Dispenser: Keeps countertops clean and clutter-free.
Hardwood Oak Floors: Connect the sunroom to the rest of the home, making it a subtle extension of their entertainment space.

Extending the Transformation
Welcoming Foyer
Updated wooden treads and an accent rug replaced the carpeted stairs, with black-painted handrails complementing the patterned runner on the stair. A small nook behind the front door now serves as a convenient seating area to put on or remove footwear, accentuated by a beautiful gold decorative mirror above the bench. A functional and aesthetic design for a busy family.

Powder room makeover
The powder was completely transformed both functionally and aesthetically. A walk in shower was added into the powder room for ease of access for their aging parents. The black and gold palette
makes it glamorous, unique and modern.

Expanded Kitchen
The biggest challenge in this home was the small kitchen. The addition of the sunroom allowed for a significant expansion into the dining area, doubling the covered storage. The stove remained on the island, enabling the homeowner to cook with a clear view of the TV in the adjacent family room. Cabinets were designed for easy access from the dishwasher and sink, while a mudroom cabinet was added near the garage entrance for shoes and backpacks.

Versatile Living and Dining
The formal living and dining areas were turned into a game room and office, reflecting the family’s needs. The game room features a pool table, creating an enjoyable space for both family and guests. The office, located near the kitchen, offers ease of access and stunning garden views – a beautiful backdrop for video calls and a serene work atmosphere.

The Final Touch: Creating a Bright and Inviting Hub
Design & Elevate successfully transformed the sunroom into a vibrant space. By carefully addressing the clients’ specific needs and integrating thoughtful design elements, the project balances functionality with aesthetic appeal. This newly created hub not only enhances the homeowners’ entertaining experience but also enriches their everyday living environment, making it a cherished space for family and friends.
